Two Songs

I never jumped in and rescued you, but I wanted to
I didn't tell you which way to go, 'cause I thought you'd know
You had a problem with your newfound wealth, you brought it on yourself
I never told you I told you so, but I told you so
Have to let it go, It's time to let it go
Now I can't believe it took so long to leave
Perhaps one day I'll grieve or I never will
I never told you I agreed with you, I don't think I do
I wasn't sure quite what the whole thing meant, but I'm glad you went
I never thought that it could be painless, but it is I guess
I had myself fooled into needing you, did I fool you too?
Have to let it go, it's time to let it go
Now I can't believe it took so long to leave
Perhaps one day I'll grieve or I never will
A viral infection that can incubate for years
Caused by affection fallen deep into arrears
No medication to procure
Makes me pure, there's no cure, I am sure
I never mentioned how I've prayed for you, and now I've paid for you
I never said that I would wait for you, it's too late for you
Have to let it go it's time to let it go
Now I can't believe it took so long to leave
Perhaps one day I'll grieve or I never will.
(--Barenaked Ladies, Told You So)

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And i'm getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide bring it down
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

...got this from a text message from an old friend. Just thought I'd share it. :)

I was feeling happy today. The guy I'm crushing on from afar talked to me for about 30 seconds.... Sad to say the happiness didn't linger for long because I'm getting some information now that's slowly breaking my heart to pieces. *sniff* Oh well. I think I'll go sulk in the corner of my room now. *sniff*

Untitled 5

We all have that mental image of the ideal mate. We want them to be good looking, to be smart, to meet us on the same mental and emotional level. But then we also know that life is cruel, that we desire things we can never get. As much as people don’t like to admit it, people’s standards change according to what is available to them.

In the span of time before a person gets into a relationship, their friends ask them what they think of the person they’re currently in love with. “So, do you really love him/her? How good is he/she for you?” Questions like this one aren’t answered with “We’re perfect for one another,” only idiots say that. The most common answer is, “Well, he/she is okay, but…”

The thing is, there’s always that conjunction “but” that answers the question with “okay.” It’s not bad and it’s not perfect, either. It’s in the gray area. Which leads me to my question: is falling in love with someone an act of compromise?

Of course, not everyone would admit to actually doing this. But think about it: the moment we start liking someone, our ideal person temporarily steps out of our mind. We’re so caught up in the person we’re in love with that we don’t realize how different he/she is from the one that we desire most. So I guess we do compromise, only subconsciously.

Then there’s something else – not only do we shift our standards for the ideal mate, but we also (somehow) compromise ourselves. Admit it, we try to change ourselves so that the other person would like us more. There’s this certain aggressiveness that appears whenever we try to “snag” the person we like. We try to look better and we flirt with them… like talking to them more often than we do other people. I don’t know if this falls into the area of compromise, but hey, if we all acted like that towards other people we don’t like (or even our friend-friends), shouldn’t everyone be getting along by now?

I dunno. What do you think? I’m mentally incapacitated to end this properly now… the shower I just took cooled down all my brain cells. Sorry.

I'm back. Not as an active blogger as before (and probably not much of that thinker anymore either), but just.... back. I have this new not-entirely-negative-and-not-entirely-positive emotional thing going on, so I will try to write when I can.
